‘What’s Cooking Bracebridge’ is a celebration of local, natural cuisine, focusing on healthy, seasonal produce coupled with great tips from the professionals on how to transform good ingredients into sensational flavour-filled dishes.

But Canadians also appreciate the diverse culinary creations that have come to us from across the ocean. Restaurants and shops with a variety of ethnic foods can be found in almost all of our cities and towns these days, and we can satisfy our taste buds and broaden our palate far beyond the fare that was available a few generations ago. This year, guests of ‘What’s Cooking Bracebridge’ can enjoy authentic food stylings from Italy and Ireland, with a hearty lunch and lively brunch.

An enthusiastic devotee of Italian cooking, Emily Richards has worked in many professional kitchens, including the Canadian Living Test Kitchen, as well as appearing on numerous television cooking shows. On Saturday, October 1, she pays homage to her southern Italian heritage with recipes reminiscent of her meals with her Nonna, aunts and mother. Her ‘Italian Bites’ family-style lunch at the beaEmily Richardscroputiful Patterson Kaye Resort features a three-course meal with traditional antipasti dishes, an Italian sausage and pasta bake, and classic tiramisu. Emily will share her recipes, chat with the guests and be available to sign her cookbook, ‘Per la Famiglia’ after the luncheon. She is also conducting a demo and workshop on October 2 with her ideas for easy one-pot meals. Emily’s goal has always been to inspire people with her own love of cooking and to encourage them to embrace the joyous experience of creative food preparation.

True to the entrepreneurial spirit of their beautiful homeland, Patrick and Eilish Kelly are introducing their new pub on the main street of Bracebridge this year. Hailing from a small village in Ireland, they want to give the people of Muskoka a taste of the ‘auld country’ in Kelly’s Kitchen Irish Pub. On Sunday, October 2, they welcome you to enjoy a delicious three-course Irish brunch,Ireland made even more fun with live music. Choices include substantial classic Irish dishes, chicken pot pie, arugula pesto linguini, salad or soup, and a couple of amazing desserts (crepes soaked in Grand Marnier and the famous Banoffee pie from Britain which mingles the flavours of banana and toffee).

The Italian and Irish contributions are a wonderful addition to the full roster of flavours at this weekend of culinary discovery, ranging from seasonal local dishes incorporating our trademark maple syrup and bountiful pumpkins, to smoked meats and fish with foraged wild herbs, to sweet and savoury pies. Guests can sip, sample, learn and dine … and meet the personable celebrity chefs who bring their particular passion for food to all their events.
